Ricardo Brennand Institute

Ricardo Brennand Institute

Like a mini–Hearst Castle in the tropics, the Ricardo Brennand Institute is a repository of medieval European tapestries, furnishings, armor and armaments housed in a Tudor castle named Castelo de São João. The collection also includes paintings on the 17th-century Dutch period in Brazil. Just a short drive west of the city, the complex, which opened in 2002, is situated on a lake with enormous gardens whose statuary include a Botero and a Rodin Thinker.
