Inle LakeIf you’re looking for a change of scenery, Inle Lake is set amongst the mountains of the Shan State and very different in both its landscape and culture to the rest of Myanmar. Home to over 70,000 people, the lake is dotted with villages built on stilts and transport between them is via longtail boat. Local people here grow rice, fruit, and vegetables on the freshwater lake, which is just under 45 square miles and is also home to many different endemic fish, snails, and birds found nowhere else in the world.
