A tour of Donegal's Inishowen Peninsula
A tour of Donegal's Inishowen Peninsula
Take a day or two to tour the Inishowen Peninsula in County Donegal, to see some of Ireland's most fascinating Christian relics, castles and forts, such as Grianan of Aileach (Grianán Ailigh in Irish, pictured above), a pagan place of worship dating back to 5 BC.
The north and west of the peninsula have the most dramatic views - stop at the Gap of Mamore, 820 feet above sea level, for panoramic vistas. Along the way you'll also see lots of long, golden beaches and coves, sheep-filled fields, traditional cottages and villages to stop off at for lunch or refreshments.
