In Fabbrica

Via del Gelsomino, 99, 50125 Firenze FI, Italy

By day it’s the canteen of a the small Pampaloni silver factory (‘fabbrica’), by night this tiled, ‘60s room is transformed into a unique -and decidedly eccentric- restaurant. The tables are laid with grand silver candelabra, silver platters and cutlery and sparkling crystal and the waiters (whose day jobs are on the factory floor) are dressed as priests. There’s a communist hammer and sickle in white fairy lights on the ceiling and hunting trophies on the walls. The food (a limited choice between Tuscan standards and oriental-style dishes and sushi) is almost incidental and actually, is not the best in Florence, but that’s hardly the point: this place is really surreal.
