You don't hear a lot about Maremma, the western coast of Tuscany. But Il Pellicano has long been a famous retreat outside of the town of Porto Ercole, right by where the Costa Concordia tipped over. Awesome pool high about the calm ocean. 2 star restaurant and it's part of the Relais & Chateaux, so you know it is a destination eating resort. It's expensive, but for the money, it had one of the nicest and biggest rooms I've ever had in Italy, with its own terrace and enormous bathroom.
Truly a destination restaurant, the two-star Michelin restaurant at the Il Pellicano hotel is one of the finest I've had in Italy. Tucked into a tiny corner of the Argentario peninsula, the wind was non-existent, the stars blazing, the food amazing.
