The central church of Mahón sits in the heart of the city, near the harbor and the fish market. The building dates from the mid-1700s, during the time of British control. Be warned that the exterior is nondescript; you'll need to go inside to appreciate its soaring neo-Gothic details, with beautifully ribbed vaults in the nave. The church's massive organ, built in Barcelona, is 15 meters (50 feet) wide and nine meters (30 feet) tall, with more than 3,000 sound tubes. The church holds frequent recitals in summer so visitors can hear it being played.
