I Dolci di Nonna Rosa is the perfect place to try cannoli in Taormina, Sicily. The town's pedestrianized Corso Umberto main drag is beyond charming, with its parade of boutiques, restaurants, and medieval gates and churches; but it can also be beyond overwhelming, especially during tourist season. To try the sweet Sicilian staple in peace, you need to escape. Fortunately, I Dolci di Nonna Rosa is just a minute outside the Porta Messina gate—close to the action, but set apart from it. That may explain why the staff at this cannoleria and gelateria are so welcoming and friendly. The ice cream is good, but the cannoli are superb: made fresh to order, long as your hand and thick as two fingers, stuffed with dreamy ricotta, and finished with pistachios and candied orange.
