Hy’s Steakhouse & Cocktail Bar

637 Hornby St, Vancouver, BC V6C 2G3, Canada

A young city like Vancouver doesn’t offer up much in the way of Old School experiences, which is why I adore the atmosphere at Hy’s for when I want to pretend it’s the ‘50s and have a sexy Mad Men-esque steak-and-three-martinis lunch. The menu is reassuringly unchanged with timeless steakhouse classics, done to perfection. Delight yourself by ordering the intensely garlic-y Caesar Salad which is made for you at table-side, and then have the phenomenal flame-torched Steak Diane with a side of creamed spinach. Best of all, if you head to their elegant upstairs bar on weekdays between 3 to 6 p.m., you can have their indulgent cheese toast for just $5 a bowl with classic cocktails for $7, so even if you’re on a budget, you can still enjoy this Vancouver tradition.
