Hurricane Ridge, Olympic National Park, WA
Olympic’s beaches and rainforests are incredible, but so are its mountains: 7,980-foot Mount Olympus sits just 33 miles from the ocean and is surrounded by thickets of sharp, glacier-wrapped peaks. Few paths reach those summits, so admire them from Hurricane Ridge, a viewpoint and visitor center that lets you gaze into the park’s rugged interior. Then hike to Hurricane Hill: The 3-mile round trip follows a paved path to a 5,757-foot perch offering views of summits and saltwater. For a fun detour, meander for a few minutes down the Little River Trail, which intersects the Hurricane Hill path and winds among meadows filled with purple lupines.
