The Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is a park across Sunrise Boulevard from the Bonnet House. Hugh Taylor Birch, a developer from Chicago who fell in love with the area's beauty, donated the land to the state. The museum is currently closed, but miles of trails that run through native vegetation like mangroves and sea grapes are nice for walking, jogging, or biking. Visitors can fish from a seawall or rent canoes to cruise through the waterways in the park. Be on the lookout for manatees, which are often spotted in the waterways in the park. The foliage is filled with insects, so bring bug spray.
