A Swiss Survivor
Take a look at the exterior of the Hotel Walliserhof, a wonderful four-star option in Zermatt, and you may not be surprised that the hotel is a century old, having first opened its doors in 1896. But the history gets a little complicated: The original hotel had only 20 beds, and World War II and a fire took their toll. The current interiors are the product of extensive renovations beginning in 1996. The hotel today has that signature Swiss combination of tradition with contemporary comforts and flawless service.
