Hotel Sacher Vienna

Philharmoniker Str. 4, 1010 Wien, Austria

Sacher is synonymous with luxury in Vienna. It’s the name of not just the hotel, but also Austria’s most famous cake, the delectable Sacher-Torte. Eduard, son of Sacher-Torte creator Franz Sacher, opened the hotel in 1876, though it was his young widow Anna who really established the property after he died. In 1934, a few years after her death, the Gürtler family took over the hotel—and continues to maintain it to this day.

Notable personalities like John F. Kennedy and Queen Elizabeth II have walked the halls of this Vienna institution. It was also here that John Lennon and Yoko Ono introduced “Bagism” to the press while inside a giant bag, an event chronicled in the Beatles’ Ballad of John and Yoko. The Belle Epoque–influenced rooms are a symbol of elegance and comfort, while the two restaurants, two bars, and illustrious Café Sacher make it possible to enjoy the hotel’s timeless charm without even being a guest. Be sure to try the famous torte—it’s an essential Vienna treat.

Hotel Sacher Salzburg

Perched on the banks of the Salzach River, Salzburg’s grande dame drips with old-world charm thanks to a stunning collection of antiques, crystal chandeliers, and fine art. But the guest rooms, many of which were refurbished in 2016 for the hotel’s 150th anniversary, expertly marry traditional elegance with a modern touch: toile wall coverings and opulent drapery soften high-tech amenities like flat-screen TVs, DVD players, and iPod docks, and marble bathrooms come stocked with the hotel’s own line of chocolate-scented toiletries. A stay here is incomplete without a slice of the eponymous cake, served with a dollop of whipped cream in the atmospheric café. Preface it with refined Austrian fare in the oak-paneled and antler-festooned Zirbelzimmer Restaurant, or grilled meats and fish at the folksy Salzachgrill. Afterward, enjoy a nightcap in the denlike bar, which spills out onto a riverside terrace.

may I offer you some sacher torte?

This realistic advertisment outside the Hotel Sacher offered us a very delicious looking torte. Indulge in the opportunity to eat the real thing and not a knock-off. It is worth every calorie.

Beautiful Salzburg

Taken from my balcony at the wonderful Sacher Hotel. PS The Sacher Torte is equally wonderful at the Sacher in Vienna and Salzburg. I did extensive tasting tests to be sure.

Viennese afternoon tea

Hotel Sacher serves the most authentic Sacher cake. We were here to celebrate my friend’s birthday. The hotel gets normal dinning area and tea room, you can choose to have a meal or just afternoon tea. I don’t recommend eating here though since the food was served with very small portion. If you want to have a true Viennese experience, just Original sacher torte+coffee melange. The combination is just classic!!
