I wanted more than a day trip so I booked a room at La Minerva. Probably my favorite hotel that I have ever stayed in. It is a very small boutique hotel on Capri. The owners are friendly and give great advice. Everyone at the hotel wants you to be happy. The room was beautiful, all white facing the water. Your private terrace with giant rattan loungers is the perfect place to chill surrounded by trees, flowers and the view.
The last ferry leaves Capri at 5:00 PM and takes all the tourist away. The town becomes magical and all yours. There is so much to see and do on Capri. The museum, the art gallery, the gardens, hiking, walking, shopping, taking a small boat around the island, shopping is over the top, and the restaurants are spectacular whether fancy or family style.
Then there is Anacapri. The other town you don't hear enough about. Take one of the taxis not the bus! So much safer. Spend a day walking around. Go to Villa Michele and lose yourself. Walk admist the little churches and watch the old men laugh and talk. There is a bakery that sells the biggest meringue cookies you can imagine.
I loved the doors, windows, and iron gates of Capri and Anacapri. The water, the light, and the laughter of the people when the tourist leave stays in your memory. They delight when you try out your Italian. Yes, Capri is the home of the rich and famous but once you get over that the locals are warm, friendly, and you will make friends.
