This 17th-century baroque hotel in the heart of Bol on the island of Brač was originally built as a fortress and became Bol’s first hotel nearly a century ago. Croatian history abounds, but cannot overpower the romantic sea views from balconies outside the guest rooms. The hotel is just a 20-minute walk away from one of Europe’s top beaches, Zlatni Rat, a golden spit of land surrounded on three sides by the Adriatic. The Vusio restaurant serves a large breakfast buffet along with views of the harbor framed by olive and pine trees. Guests who want to book a spa treatment will receive a discount at the neighboring Hotel Elaphusa Thalasso Wellness Centre.
