Houston’s Chinatown sits in the southwest of the city. A bit of a misnomer, this vibrant international district encompasses Middle Eastern as well as other Asian communities. Here, ethnic foods and traditions rub shoulders with big-spirited, embracing Texas hospitality. The Hong Kong City Mall shopping center has more than 20 restaurants, shops, and the vast Hong Kong Food Market, which has every ingredient imaginable, not to mention a remarkable array of fresh seafood (kids used to packaged fish love it). For bargains of every kind, head to nearby Harwin Drive, where strip malls offer a wide and surprisingly distinctive array of merchandise, from discounted electronics to Asian herbal medicine shops.
