The beauty of this port city on the Seine, just across from Le Havre, has made it a frequent subject of painters, including Monet. Its Old Harbor is lined with restaurants, shops and 300-year-old town houses, and among its architectural treasures are a medieval fortress and a wooden church with vaulted ceilings erected by 15th-century shipbuilders. The Musée Eugène Boudin, named for a native son, displays Impressionist works, many of them by artists who stayed and worked at a farmhouse on the edge of town.
