While many tourists pull their cars into the big lot off of Mulholland Drive during the day, it's only at nighttime that locals visit this place. Even though the parking lot is closed, and the gates are shut, intrepid travelers will always be able to find a way in. Dark silhouettes of couples or other revelers move about like happy ghosts--follow them around if you're at a loss for ideas. I won't be spilling the beans here.
The lights blaze on in the distance, and the highways turning into rivers of light. Depending on the weather--haze, heat, clear, smoggy--a different view emerges. Walk up the stone stairs to the very top where coin operated binoculars offer a closer look. And a little farther down a night hike offers some further privacy into the hills.
