Holiday Inn Resort Dead Sea
Dead Sea Highway
Holiday Inn Resort Dead SeaThe Dead Sea, it must be said is shrinking. It's a giant salty enclosed lake and every year, evaporation means the water gets ever more saline and the level gets slightly lower. One effect of this is that most of the Jordanian coast has ended up as cliffs, with precious little beach. Most have been reserved by the hotel resorts that line the northern coast, offering ticket access to non-guests. Of these, the Holiday Inn is one of the best.
Following the steep walk downhill to the beach, you're free to indulge in the time-honored challenge of trying to swim in the saltiest water on the planet. Good luck – even trying the simplest doggy paddle with have you bobbing up and down like a cork. It's weird, hilarious fun.
There are pots of cleansing Dead Sea mud to plaster yourself with to improve your skin. You can wash it off in the sea, but if you've given yourself a facemask, stick to the freshwater showers provided – the extreme saltiness of the Dead Sea is not something you want to get in your eyes.
