I have watched the movie "Key Largo" several times. It was filmed in Key Largo, the Florida Keys. Its hero was Humphrey Bogart and it was released in 1948. Another Bogart favorite of mine is "The African Queen" released in 1952. Both films were quite successful as Bogart was a major star at the time.
Humphrey Bogart appeared in more than 75 films during his 30 year career and was a very popular actor.
Now 65 years after "Key Largo" was released, there will be a Humphrey Bogart Film Festival in Key Largo and Islamorada. It will run from May 2nd -May 5th.
Bogart's son, Stephen ( his mother is the actress Lauren Bacall ) will host the festival and make appearances at different events. Leonard Maltin, a renowned movie critic, will appear at the festival as a special guest.
The formal Bogart ball will be held on May 4th at the Hilton Key Largo Resort. The inspiration for the ball was Bogart's well-known movie "Casablanca".
The African Queen, the boat from the movie has been an attraction at the Hilton for many years. It has been restored and festival guests will be able to book cruises on the vessel. One cruise is the canal cruise and lasts 1 1/2 hours. The other choice is a dinner cruise.
The Holiday Inn is also the site of the Bogart Memorabilia display which is on loan from the Bogart estate.
Some of the movies being shown are "High Sierra", "Casablanca", and the Maltese Falcon".
