I grew up 30 minutes from downtown Milwaukee but never went there or thought to check it out. After being away from the area for 14 years and exploring some interesting places I felt I needed to check it out just like I would if I were a traveler.
In early December I went for a night walk starting in the Historic Third Ward. From there I wandered down Water Street and made my way back to my car following Plankington Ave.
It turns out there are loads of great restaurants in the Third Ward. I had a pizza at a great little restaurant called Rustica which I highly recommend. All along the way I found place I have heard of so often but have never gone to like The Repertory Theatre, Marcus Center for Performing Arts, Rock Bottom and Water Street Breweries.
Along with the river walk it was a great way to get to know the city and realize that I need to get down there more often. If you live in the area check it out or if you are traveling through be sure to make a point to check this area out.
I have posted one photo from that night and other can be found at http://www.flickr.com/photos/27665354@N03/
