It's easy to miss this little theater, nestled as it is in a quiet neighborhood just east of downtown. Despite its modest appearance and low-key locale, the Hoover has been in business since 1931 -- so it must be doing something right. I discovered the Hoover when I heard that it hosted juergas (flamenco jam sessions), and since then I've been an avid patron. While juergas (presented by the Flamenco Society of San Jose) are a somewhat regular event, stage productions are the Hoover's mainstay, including those of the avant-garde Renegade Theatre Experiment. You won't find many restaurants or bars within walking distance, but who cares? Just go.
