Historic CBD Buildings
Auckland's Central Business District may be watched over by the soaring Sky Tower, but it's anchored in heritage architecture along Queen Street. Start at the Edwardian baroque-style Ferry Terminal, built in 1912. Further up the street, the coffered ceilings and glass roofs of Queens and Strand Arcades give you a feel for shopping at the turn of the century. The Civic Theatre is one of the last surviving "atmospheric" theaters in the world, with a grand India-inspired interior and Art Deco facade.
