Kiwi artist Mark Cross divides his time between Auckland and his wife’s native home on the island of Niue. Cross, along with a collective of local and New Zealand artists, established this unusual visionary sculpture park in 1996 on a patch of infertile land surrounded by rain forest as a statement on environmental concerns. The artworks are made up primarily of found and recycled objects, showing how one man’s trash can be another’s creative medium. Visitors are encouraged to interact with and even contribute to the sculptures, should you have a broken flip-flop in your bag.
