Dalsland is the place to hike through untouched wilderness or meditative walking along pilgrim paths — traditional hiking paths used by pilgrims in historical times when they were journeying between important religious or holy places. The pilgrim path of Dalsland is about 30 miles long, and runs from the small town of Mellerud to the even smaller hamlet of Edleskog. Or walk along Karolinerleden, the nine mile route the Swedish king Karl XII and his army marched along on their way to conquer Norway in 1718. You can camp or stay in hostels and hotels along the way, including Edleskog Wärdshus, the oldest hiking guesthouse (it provides guides, hicking gear, maps and so on) in Sweden.
