During my trip to the Island of Palawan in the Philippines with Intrepid Travel, I spent two nights in Hibiscus Garden Inn in Puerto Princesa. The hotel is just as its name suggests: a quiet oasis surrounded by towering trees, handmade hammocks and of course, a garden.
Puerto Princesa is where many travelers begin their adventure on Palawan. The airport is located nearby so it's easy to head straight to the hotel upon arriving. There are some restaurants in the close vicinity but food is also available at Hibiscus' restaurant. Rooms are simple but spacious and there is air-conditioning as well as an overhead fan, plus hot shower water.
My favorite thing about staying here was the warm environment they've managed to create. It feels very remote and yet, it's not far from bars, restaurants or shops. The staff was also very friendly and I felt right at home. If you're so inclined, as I was, you can have the front desk arrange a one-hour massage.
