114 Central Avenue
I.M. Pei in IthacaDesigned by I. M. Pei & Partners, the Johnson Museum is named for benefactor Herbert F. Johnson, a distinguished graduate of Cornell’s Class of 1922. Now celebrating its 40th anniversary, the museum has one of the finest collections of art in upstate New York and is recognized as one of the most important university museums in the country. A highlight is a current exhibit of 12,000 white LED lights on the outdoor ceiling of the Mallin Sculpture Court balcony. The lights create dazzling patterns that you can view from a long wooden lounge bench.
