Herb & Wood
Chef Brian Malarkey, who once starred on The Taste, self admittedly stretched himself too thin with the growth of his Searsucker and Herringbone restaurant franchises. After parting ways with both, he found his love of cooking once more by co-opening Herb & Wood, a brasserie in Little Italy
that deftly merges fresh West Coast ingredients with French cooking technique. The seasonal menu changes daily but dishes might include hamachi with hibiscus ponzu, avocado, and crispy rice pearls and grilled venison loin with dates and buttermilk polenta. The Sunday brunch is among San Diego’s most delicious and decadent offering eggs benedict with Jamon Iberico and crab quiche with caviar. For those in search of something more casual, the adjacent market Herb & Eatery serves sandwiches, salads and pizzas to eat in or takeaway.
