Henne Alt-Berliner Wirtshaus

Leuschnerdamm 25, 10999 Berlin, Germany

I sat at the little communal table shared by 3 other lucky strangers who, like me, were dining alone that night. Since all of the other tables were taken via reservations, this little communal table sat solo travelers like me if there was room. I looked at the photo of JFK behind the bar and determined that this place probably looked exactly like it did when he visited the restaurant. Henne is a well known German fried chicken restaurant in Kreuzberg - and yes - this chicken will blow your mind. Order the special chicken (which is the only thing on the menu), and a big mug of beer and wait to be wowed with crispy, juicy, saltiness. Not only is the menu simple - but so is the chicken. It’s just half a fried chicken and a piece of bread with butter - that’s it. And that really all you need. It’s worth a stop to simply see the old interior of the corner restaurant and bar. It certainly has an atmospheric feel. JFK even dined here - hence the picture of John staring at me from the bar as I ate my finger licking chicken. However you must make a reservation - else you’ll most likely get turned away - unless like me you are a solo diner and can squeeze into the communal table by the bar!
