Hemingway Home & Museum
The Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum illustrates Key West's deep literary history and Hemingway is at the forefront of it. The 2-story home lined decorated balconies is where Nobel Prize winner lived and wrote novels during the years of home of his best works. The grounds are beautifully manicured. The gardens are lined with blooming jasmines, hisbicus flowers and gardenias. There are daily tours of the home, which include many 18th century Spanish furniture pieces. The house was built in 1851 and has many historic artifacts from his travels, including a few chandeliers and the 17th century Spanish chest on chest. A notable piece to admire within the home includes a red leather Cardinal's chair by the door that was used in a production of Hemingway's Broadway play - the Fifth Column. The exterior includes a beautiful in-ground swimming pool, which was unusual to have in The Keys in the 1930s due to the sand and coral found in South Florida.
