The Point Reyes seashore is a place that calls to me on a regular basis, and understandably so. It satisfies many a craving in one fell swoop - there's a lighthouse, oysters at hand, iced coffees at Toby's, great cheese at Cowgirl...and all it takes is a great long curving road to get there.
On the downside, Point Reyes is no one's secret.
Those days that I'm jonesing for a solitary walk in nature, Heart's Desire beach is my go-to. Just a few additional minutes out of the way but well off the beaten path, you'll likely be sharing the beach with a few families at most. Take off down the trail to the left-hand side of the park for a mild mile-long hike to further glorious isolation and a surprise I won't bother spoiling here.
