Hardangervidda National Park
Europe’s largest mountain plateau and the largest national park in mainland Scandinavia, Hardangervidda is wild Norway at its very best. The 1,321-square-mile park is the southernmost limit for arctic plants and animals including the Arctic fox and Europe’s largest stock of wild reindeer. To learn about the wildlife, geology and botany of the park beyond what you can see from the roadside, call in at the Hardangervidda Nature Centre in Eidfjord. The 20-minute panoramic film Fjords, Mountains and Waterfalls is a must-see. The nearby 600ft-high Vøringsfossen waterfall is a national symbol that has drawn tourists to the area since the late 19th-century.
