After weeks of cheap hostels and semi-clean guesthouse, Rewda Guesthouse in Harar came as a welcome change. An old Harari house in the center of old town Harar is a gem. The house only has three rooms and there are delicious breakfast and coffee prepared by the owner herself.
The house is a traditional Adare House, two stories with a flat roof and a central courtyard to control the heat. The main living room has five levels, all covered in rugs and pillows, guests and family members sit on the level that is befitting their station. There are eleven niches set into the wall, each filled with pots, pans, plates and cups. It is a busy and impressive display. The Rewda House doubles as an example of classic Adare house. Occasionally you will find a tour guide in the middle of the living room, explaining the house in French, Dutch and English. It is like staying in a living museum.
