Mount of Beatitudes, Teachable Moment?
Identified as the site of Jesus Christ’s so-called Sermon on the Mount, this flower-accented hillside spot could—depending on your beliefs—be merely a nice place for a church visit or a deeply meaningful point of arrival. It was somewhere in between for me. The Galilee spreads out before you, as do the gentle hills, and while a priest gives an address in Latin and another group of visiting faithful sings hymns, you can’t help but reflect, as the cypresses and date palms bend in the breeze, on the power and age of the spiritual traditions that started here.
