If your looking for an Endless Summer surf vacation to polish your skills, catch your first wave, or surf with pros, Hanalei Bay on the North Shore of Kauai is the hot spot. Nestled in the lush mountains of the North Shore, the bay provides great waves ranging from beginner to advanced as well as miles of beach for those that are just surf watchers.
If you are in the market to watch the local surfing community or buy/sell a board, once a month on the first Saturday, at Old School Building in Hanalei (aka Hanalei Surf Company) the surfers from all over the island convene. From 9am-noon, the Hanalei Surfboard Swap provides a chance to sell, buy, or trade boards. You can find just the right board for you and your ability, including fish boards, malibus, shortboards, guns, and even some other gear for other water sports like stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), outrigger canoeing, and wind or kite surfing.
After the swap, board or not, it's time to go to the beach to rip, ride, or just hang loose. Why not grab some local grinds (eats) and take them to go to the beach? My foodie suggestions are Hanalei Coffee Roasters (surfer breakfast), Hanalei Taro and Juice Co. food truck (plate lunch), and Tropical Taco (fish tacos).
I'll leave you with a virtual shaka sign and aloha (friendship, compassion, everything's alright, and hang loose.)
