Hakata Machiya Folk Museum‬‬

Hakata Machiya Folk Museum‬‬

This charming folk museum is set inside several preserved local town houses in front of the Kushida Shrine. By far the best place in the city to get an overview of Hakata's history and culture, it includes a mix of exhibits and activities spanning the Meiji and Taishō eras (between 1868 and 1926) and has daily demonstrations of crafts like silk weaving. In addition to learning about Hakata-ori, one of the most prestigious textiles in Japan, guests can purchase traditional crafts and products.
