Last week was my second trip to Hacienda Antigua, in Cozumel Mexico. Last year, we decided to head to the tourist trap, that was a suggestion from our driver, after a romp on the local Mayan Ruins.
At first glance, it looks like the usual tour, buy this, buy that- When you arrive, they greet you with their signature house margarita, which is excellent. If you have a weak stomach, I would suggest tossing the ice, just in case. For a few extra bucks, you can get chips and salsa- which I think should be free. I always opt for the guacamole, which is to die for.
After that, you get a brief history on tequila, and what the difference is between real Mexican Made 100% Agave, and to quote our tour guide, "If you want to drink horse piss, drink Patron". Makes you think that all that money you're dropping in the bars on Patron, is not worth it.
Once the tour is over, you get to taste test every tequila they make. Taste testing also consists of standing in front of the bottle, and pouring unlimited shots.
If anything, buy a bottle to bring back home with you. I made the mistake last year, by only buying the small bottles as decor. Their tequila is very hard to find on the internet, and I have never seen it in stores, or even restaurants, claiming to have over 100 different tequilas.
This tourist trap is definitely a time, and for $10 and a group of friends, you really can't go wrong.
