Gyeongju Historic Areas
At the Gyeongju Historic Areas, visitors can find a striking collection of Buddhist art, mostly dating between the 7th and 10th centuries when the peninsula was ruled by the Silla dynasty (57 B.C.E.–935 C.E.). Among the sights are ruined temples and palaces, pagodas, sculptures and reliefs. There are five distinct areas to explore—the Mount Namsan Belt (one of the main focal points), the Wolseong Belt, the Tumuli Park Belt, the Hwangnyongsa Belt and the Sanseong Fortress Belt—which, collectively, have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000.
