Though Gump’s may not be well-known outside the Bay Area, the store is a beloved local institution, a West Coast equivalent to Tiffany & Co. The store began in 1861, selling home furnishings to clients who had struck it rich in the gold rush. It continues to cater to those who have new fortunes and are in search of the refined taste of old money with its exquisitely curated selections of china, jewelry and gifts.
