Güdübeş Kalesi

Visit the remains of a castle dating back to the Middle Ages
Güdübeş (or Gudubes) Kalesi is a castle dating back to the Middle Ages. The crusaders built it, but not much else is known about its original purpose. It was later used as a prisoner holding area in the war between France and Turkey after World War I, being ideal for this task due to its close proximity to the train line between Mersin and Adana.

Güdübeş Kalesi is located off of the Mersin-Tarsus Road (D400). It is about 15km from Mersin’s train station. When you leave town on the D400 going East towards Tarsus, before you get to Huzurkent, you will turn left at Yakaköy, pass over the train tracks and turn left in front of the Oğretmen Lisesi. From that corner, you will drive 1.6 km (following the largest road of the two road splits you will drive through), and then turn left 240 m and park on the side of the road. The castle is to the right (west), on the hill.
