Gudhjem
This tidy fishing village on the island’s rugged northeastern coast attracts foodies and shoppers alike. Home to only 780 year-round residents, Gudhjem (“God’s Home” in Danish) features a small harbor, cobblestoned streets lined with half-timbered houses painted in vibrant hues, and the town’s steepest street, Brøddegade, lined with restaurants. Sample local specialties such as pancakes and sol over Gudhjem (smoked herring, radish and chives on rye bread, topped with raw egg yolk).
