Grondin: French-Latin Kitchen
This bistro-styled dining room draws on its owners' heritage: South America excitement from David Segarra and French classics from Jenny Grondin. This powerhouse couple previously brought Malaysian trendiness to
New York City, helping to open four Fatty Crab and Fatty 'Cue restaurants. As they follow their hearts now, the kitchen turns out delicacies from ceviche to charcuterie, cubanos and chicken mole. Grondin doesn't just cater to carnivores, though. Vegetarians can savor dishes like ratatouille, annatto rice, and "munchines" (fried cassava balls with honey and
queso fresco). Set in
Honolulu's rapidly revitalizing Chinatown, the restaurant also serves a popular weekend brunch that can include a hibiscus mimosa or yerba mate iced tea. On the last Sunday of each month, it takes a jazzy turn with live music. Reserve ahead!
