The Groeningemuseum is a compact and concise gallery in the heart of Bruges. The visual overview of Dutch art and some spectacular pieces make this museum worth the visit.
The highlight of the collection is Jan van Eyck's "The Madonna and Child with Canon van der Paele"—a breathtaking piece of realism and jeweled details and a genuine masterpiece. Creepy monsters populate the dark landscape in Hieronymus Bosch's "The Last Judgement" while the gruesome torture in "The Flaying of Sisamnes" by Gerard David may be too much for some viewers. Thankfully there are portraits, serene religious scenes and colorful modern pieces in the next rooms!
