This was an awesome, eventful and ridiculous hike all in one for us. We took boyfriend's sister and niece, 5, on the 7-mile or so hike. Along the lake, we ran into a couple who told us they just saw a bear. We kept on, and on our snack break, found ourselves bookended by mama bears with cubs. It was a bit terrifying for a bit, but the bears carried on and we scurried forward, increasing elevation. We got 3 or 4 miles in before the toddler had a meltdown and boyfriend had to carry her most of the way back. We sang "Wheels on the bus" very loudly through the area with the bears and got a good laugh out of hippies in a van showing us bears through their binoculars since we'd just come face to face with about 7 bears. Definitely a memorable hike.
