Located across the street from the bar is a statue in honor of Greyfriars Bobby. Bobby was the name of a cute little Skye Terrier who has become legendary in the Scottish capital. When Bobby’s master died, he was so sad and yet an obedient dog, that he kept watch over his master’s grave for 14 years, until he, himself died. Just down the road from the pub and the monument is Greyfriars churchyard where Bobby’s master, is buried. Bobby had to be buried just outside the church grounds because, it seems, that consecrated ground doesn’t allow animals to be buried there. Its a nice little story and has been made into a movie twice.
