Moose Safari

Greenville is a frontier town, the last chunk of civilization before entering Maine’s northern woods. Anchoring the southeast corner of Moosehead Lake, Maine’s largest body of freshwater, and with endless miles of backcountry hiking and remote-waterway paddling close at hand, the town’s a favorite for outdoor enthusiasts. It’s also primo moose territory. While the odds are decent should you prefer to seek them out yourself and hit some of the easy-to-access boggy sites publicized by the local chamber, they increase if you go with a licensed Maine Guide, who will not only take you via four-wheel vehicle or canoe to see the gangly critters in their habitat, but also supply info and trivia.

Gone Fishin'

People looking for the big catch should charter a deep-water fishing boat and head a few miles off the coast to the gulf-stream where they can catch tuna, sharks, and blue fish. Being on the open ocean can be a thrilling experience. You will experience first hand the power of the ocean and the big fish that live there.

Fly-fishermen looking for a battle with a more intelligent fish will find plenty of challenge trying to fool salmon and trout in Maine’s rivers and streams. Even kids can have fun fishing for small fish off of docks using hooks and worms. The Rangeley region offers the best fresh water fishing with a good mix of pristine spring-fed lakes and rivers.
