Green Parrot
If you're visiting Key West for the first time, Green Parrot is one of the places that is a must-do. It's the most famous bar in Key West and is a staple for those looking to have a southern good time. Set in a 100-year-old building that was once a grocery store, the Green Parrot Bar on Whitehead Street is the perfect kind of dive bar for late-night fun.

The bar became a staple right after World War II. The building had transitioned from a grocery start to The Brown Derby Bar, a bunker-like, air-conditioned hangout for submarine sailors stationed at the base only a block away.

After the war, many of the sailors that would visit the Brown Derby Bar since it was the only sense of familiarity they had as Key West evolved. Key West has since become a haven for free-spirits, which prompted the owners to turn it into a haven for bikers, hipsters and creatives, called the Green Parrot.

Jim Bean bought the bar in the 1980s and turned it into what it is today. While no longer owned by the Bean family, it energy still swings through the bustling space known for showcasing live, local musicians seven days a week.
