The wait for Franklin Barbecue, if you choose to partake in that slice of
Austin tourism, is quite long. It also is best if started quite early (we arrived at 7:50 am on a Sunday -- in at 11:45 am). Luckily, Legend Coffee Co. is located in a wooden trailer in the fenced-in lot right behind the building. It looks like a small operation, but they do roast their own coffee (off-site, of course) and offer up a concise but quality menu. The Ethiopian roast I tried (as a 12-oz pour over) was smooth with a fruity, but not biting, acidity. Even if you're in the area and not getting barbecue, Legend is worth a stop, as it offered up one of the better cups of coffee I had during my trip. Keep in mind, though, that their hours are pretty consistent with those of Franklin: Tuesday - Sunday, 8 am - 3 pm. If you are waiting in line, at least you can rest assured that there's good coffee nearby. And get a pour over...it takes a few minutes longer, but face it, you're not going anywhere anytime soon.
