l stay in a lot of hotels every year - at least I spend a lot of nights in hotel rooms. It seems like most places I go, there's not a lot of difference - the same elevator, the same strange carpet, the same lock on the same door, the same Ceasar Salad on the menu.
But the Grand Hyatt in Kuala Lumpur was different. Like, a lot different. First, the lobby is on the top floor with two-story windows looking out toward the Petronas Towers, that glow like heavenly arc lights at night seemingly at arms' length.
The rooms, half the cost of the smaller, less interesting one I stayed in the night before at the Grand Hyatt in Singapore, was spacious and modern, with electro-static glass around the bathroom that went opaque with the flick of a switch or clear, when switched back to open up the room.
The food was great, the location excellent. But, even among all this, the place I loved the most was the pool. Five floors above the streets of Central KL, and literally in the shadow of the Petronas Towers, I made a point of swimming a couple of times a day - floating on my back and looking at those amazing building, sipping a Tiger Beer and watching what happened below.
If you like a Hyatt, you'll love this one. But, please don't miss the pool.
