The Heart and Soul of Cannes
Head south from Paris
to Cannes, long a small Provençal port town nestled into the Mediterranean coast, even if now it is better known as the epicenter of the international film scene for a few brief weeks each spring. Shelby, however, steers clients to sights where you can experience the old Cannes like the small hill of Le Suquet and the historic town center around it. Take a walk down the winding medieval path of Rue Saint-Antoine, and climb the hill to explore the artifacts at Musée de la Castre, housed within the old castle. At the central church, Notre Dame de l'Esperance, climb the steps of the clock tower for stunning views of the bay. Then duck into the Marche Forville, the local market where the smell of fresh, seasonal fruits and dried herbs fill the air, before strolling down to the iconic Boulevard de la Croisette, where the Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic serves local dish like roasted sea bream or Salade Niçoise from the open-air restaurant on its private beach.
