Local traditions of any place fascinate me, esp. intimate traditions of life "breaking" occasions like weddings.
In Hong Kong, the Golden Plaza on the Nathan Road of Kowloon Island is a "wedding market", where you can walk through the traditions of the Chinese wedding, where red is the dominant color. The dresses can be be very traditional and eleborately embroidered or have sleek net or silken material long dresses! To go along, you can get everything else, mostly in red: accessoires, cushions, decorations, head decorations and accessoires for the groom.
In addtion to the traditonal Chinese wedding, the "white" wedding is celebrated with a traditional white dress and accessoires. If I am correct, the white wedding is the day, the wedding is registered at office. Along with the dress, you get all accessoires for the white wedding here too. What surprised us, were elaborate heels, which can be bought, to be mounted seperately on the shoes. The were elaborately decorated with gold, silver, pearls, diamentees etc. costing something around 300USD.
The whole wedding can be planned in this plaza.
Intriguing to me was that the color red, like in India and Pakistan is used in the traditonal weddings, coconut is used as a source of blessings, the bride is presented something of gold by the groom, when the wedding agreement is signed.
Generally people in Hong Kong marry young and also buy an accomodation at a young age.
